LIMA — Noah Phillips, a 16-year-old junior at Lima Senior High School, is hoping for some kind of career in the music business after college.

He’s been playing the piano since he was five years old and is a drum major for the band. He also plays the French horn in the concert band.

“I’m looking to be some type of music major in college and then I’m trying to figure out what type of music career I want to go into. I’m interested in performing in pits for Broadway types of shows and I’m interested in that. I just have a lot of passion for music and I just love doing it” said Phillips.

He credits his band director from his freshman year, Jaz Bluhm for his interest in music.

“He’s probably been one of the main influencers. I only had him freshman year but he left a big impact on me,” said Phillips.

He hasn’t narrowed down his college choices just yet.

“I’ve looked at a couple of schools like Berklee (College of Music) in Boston is one I’m interested in,” he said.

He’s also involved in soccer and tennis and enjoys the arts.

“So far it’s been amazing for me. A lot of my arts classes have been very immersive and give me a lot of great experiences. There’s a lot of choirs, a lot of different bands. There’s drama club and there’s just all types of different opportunities,” said Phillips.

He’s also been involved in Octopus Productions.

“I’ve done some music assistant work, which is like arranging some stuff for that and composing a little but mainly on the performance side I’ve played keyboard and piano for a couple events, played for their show Sweet Charity they did this past summer. That was a really good experience and I was rehearsal accompanist for those rehearsals,” he added.
