Indian Cultural Centre hosts musical event

Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) along with Friends of Pattanamtitta (FOPTA) conducted a grand show of talents by musicians in a fiesta of instrumental fusion recently at the Ashoka Hall at the ICC premises.
These musicians who have served Indian Navy for around two decades and residing in Qatar kept the 200 plus audience glued to their seats with a variety of music.
Classical music items presented in the evening to the audience included Carnatic Classic Keerthanam (Maha Ganapathim, Boho Shambho); Tamil movie songs (Kannane Kanne, Mankuyile Poonkuyile ); KPAC Drama Song (Parannu Parannu Parannu Chellan); old festival song (Mamangam); old Hindi song (Mana ho tum, Durum ain’t Akhiyom me, Ajaare Pardesi); Hindustani classical song — Raag Darbari Kanada, theme song of Sholay; trumpet & saxophone duet, Hindi medley — violin solo, chain song with music and mangalam carnatic – vocal.
A special performance of the patriotic song Sandese Aathe Hai (film Border) with live painting by Santosh Govind was the pick of the evening which the audience will cherish for long. The painting was done in the duration of the five-minute song.
Earlier, Oonnikrishnan Nair M N, president of FOPTA, introduced the artists and the programme to the audience and also spoke about the continuous association with all major programme of the Indian Cultural Centre.
He spoke about the contribution of the associated organisation of Indian cultural Center in the Passage to India in 2016 and the roadshow for the environmental awareness during the Qatar National Environment day in 2015. ICC President Manikantan AP welcomed the gathering and felicitated the artists with the appreciation plaques.
He said that the programme was a continuation of the initiative by Indian Cultural Centre along with all ICC associate organisations, Indian schools and Indian cultural institutions in Qatar, to have cultural shows on every week at the ICC’s Ashoka Hall.
Such programmes provide a suitable platform and opportunities for associate organisations of different states of India to showcase their culture. Admission to these programme is free for all.
