Tri-M® Music Honor Society and National Federation of State High School Associations Team Up to Provide 10 Schools Grants to Start Tri-M® Chapters
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has partnered with the Tri-M® Music Honor Society (A Program of The National Association for Music Education) to provide a grant to 10 new Tri-M® chapters during the 2019-2020 academic year. “Tri-M offers students the opportunity to gain skills in leadership and community service,” shared Mike Blakeslee, NAfME Executive Director and CEO.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has partnered with the Tri-M® Music Honor Society (A Program of The National Association for Music Education) to provide a grant to 10 new Tri-M® chapters during the 2019-2020 academic year.
“Tri-M offers students the opportunity to gain skills in leadership and community service,” shared Mike Blakeslee, NAfME Executive Director and CEO. “As we believe all students should have the opportunity to participate in a high-quality music education program in their schools, we also believe all students should have access to leadership programs like Tri-M Music Honor Society. And so we appreciate the generosity of the National Federation of State High School Associations to help make that opportunity available to more students.”
“The NFHS is excited to be a part of bringing leadership opportunities to high school music programs,” said Dr. James Weaver, Director of Performing Arts for the NFHS. “The grants are a way of encouraging new schools to start Tri-M chapters and grow student leaders while participating in their school’s and state’s programs. We look forward to continuing our work with NAfME and Tri-M.”
Requirements to receive the grant are:
1. Have a willing faculty member able to fulfill the duties of the Advisor role.
2. Have never chartered a chapter, or not have had an active chapter in the past 10 years.
3. Be in good standing with their NFHS state association.
4. Plan to or currently participate in NFHS state music contests and/or programs.
5. Plan for student leadership development.
The deadline to apply for the 2019-2020 academic year is October 4, 2019. Applicants can visit musichonors.com/nfhs for details. Grants will be awarded in time for schools to start their chapters as soon as October 14, 2019.
The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for middle/junior high and high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.
