Meshell Ndegeocello and Aoife O’DonovanProvided by Longworth-Anderson SeriesThe multi-genre Longworth-Anderson Series at Over-the-Rhine’s Memorial Hall returns for a fourth year in 2020, and the first concert announcements for the season indicate that it will be picking up right where it left off in terms of presenting intimate concerts with some of the most acclaimed artists in the world. The series has previously featured artists like Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Nils Lofgren, Los Lobos, Marty Stuart, Mavis Staples, Keb Mo, Lucius, Stephen Marley, The Lone Bellow, The Milk Carton Kids and many others.
Singer/songwriter/bassist Meshell Ndegeocello will perform as part of the LAS on March 20. Considered an early purveyor of the Neo Soul movement, Ndegeocello has been nominated for 10 Grammys, including a Best Urban Contemporary Album nod for last year’s Ventriloquism. The album included her takes on several songs from the ’80s and ’90s, including Prince’s “Sometimes It Snows in April,” TLC’s “Waterfalls” and Sade’s “Smooth Operator.”

Folk singer/songwriter Aoife O’Donovan plays the LAS on March 22. O’Donovan — who played the Longworth-Anderson Series previously with the supergroup I’m With Her, which also features Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz — will perform a program titled “Songs & Strings,” in which she is joined by a string quartet to perform the “Bull Frogs Croon” song cycle. Written with Jeremy Kittel and Teddy Abrams and featuring words by former Poet Laureate of Oregon Peter Sears, the “Bull Frogs Croon” program was first performed in 2015 at Oregon’s Britt Music & Arts Festival.
