Adwaith have won the Welsh Music Prize for their debut album, ‘Melyn’.

The Carmarthen trio saw off competition from Cate Le Bon, Accü, audiobooks, Carwyn Ellis, Deyah, Estrons, HMS Morris, Lleuwen, Lucus J Rowe, Mr, and VRi, to succeed last year’s winners, Boy Azooga, who took home the gong for ‘1,2, Kung Fu!”.

Adwaith accepted the award from Huw Stephens at the Coal Exchange in Cardiff last night (November 27). He said:

“A very exciting and deserved winner from an exceptional shortlist. Adwaith have made a real impact with their personal, beautiful music that captures what it’s like to be young, female, frustrated and bewildered at the world we live in.”

During their acceptance speech, the band said:

“This is so insane! Thank you to everyone that bought the album, and everyone that has helped us and supported us.”

Adwaith recently released a double a-side single, featuring new tracks Orange Sofa and Byd Ffug. Listen below.
