Legendary music composer Khayyam, who died in Mumbai at the age of 92, was given state honours at his funeral. He breathed his last at Sujay Hospital at around 9.30 pm on August 19, 2019. Celebrities from film, television and music industry dropped by the music maestro’s Mumbai residence in Juhu to pay their last respects on August 20, 2019. Veteran lyricist Gulzar, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, actress Poonam Dhillon and many others were spotted at the do. The last rites of the National Award winning composer was held at the Four Bungalows in Mumbai. Wrapped in the Tricolour, Khayyam’s coffin was carried by the Mumbai Police personnel from his residence. The Mumbai Police also gave the guard of honour to music composer Khayyam. Khayyam, who started his musical career at the age of 17, was also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan. He was also honoured with the National Award for Best Music Director for the film ‘Umrao Jaan’. He is best remembered for his compositions in films such as ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Aakhri Khat’, ‘Kabhi Kabhie’, ‘Razia Sultan’, ‘Dil-e-Nadaan’ and ‘Dard’. (BCCL/Prashant Jadhav)
