Scott Polley’s day job is managing the custodial staff at Ralph Engelstad Arena. But that’s not all the northern Red River Valley man plans to do with his life — he just released a song and music video after dreaming about doing so for decades.

Polley, who lives in rural Polk County near Warren, Minn., said while it has been exciting to do something he has been dreaming of doing for so long, it hasn’t changed who he is.

“I guess I feel I’m the same person whether I’m performing or if I’m doing my day-to-day job,” he said. “I don’t feel I changed at all.”

Polley has remained dedicated to his dream and has spent the last two years recording songs in Nashville and shooting a video.

A friend connected him to a voice coach who worked with famous faces including Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood and a drummer who toured with Tim McGraw.

“Just knowing the stages these people have been on,” was intimidating, explained Polley, who sang in his high school choir but had aspirations to sing since his childhood.

It was his wife’s breast cancer diagnosis that finally inspired him to chase his dream.

“We kind of went through the journey with it,” Polley said. “(We) decided if things came out well that we were going to live life to the fullest after.”

Nearly four years later, they’re doing just that.

“It is very humbling,” said Scott’s wife, Stacy Polley. “It was a very tough situation to start, but as time has gone on, I really feel (inspired) to live every day to the fullest.”

Since being posted to YouTube on Oct. 24, Polley’s video for his song “So Into You” has racked up more than 2,000 views. He hopes to release his second video in the next few months.

Polley is still planning his first live performance and he said it will be somewhere local. One of his biggest goals is to one day open for an act at the Ralph Engelstad Arena, where he works.

“I’m just kind of a normal guy with kind of a dream,” he said. “The sky’s the limit on what you can actually accomplish.”
