Spanish pop singer Joana Sainz Garcia has died after an onstage pyrotechnic accident during a performance on Sunday.

The singer and dancer was performing with her Super Hollywood Orchestra group at a venue near Madrid in the early hours of the morning when a pyrotechnic device exploded near her, knocking her unconscious, according to local media reports.

A doctor and a nurse who were in the crowd attempted to help Sainz before paramedics arrived and transported her to hospital, where she was later confirmed dead, according to Spanish newspaper El Diario Montanes.

Footage posted on Twitter purportedly shows the moment the firework exploded, causing Sainz, 30, the 15-member pop group’s principal dancer, to collapse on the ground. The Super Hollywood Orchestra were closing the four-day festival in the town of Las Berlanas near the Spanish capital.

The group’s promoters, Prones 1SL, told another newspaper, El Norte de Castilla the “regrettable” incident appeared to have been caused by pyrotechnic manufacturing failure.

“The whole Prones family, partners, artists, friends, collaborators are very sad and dismayed by the loss of our companion and friend Joana Sainz,” representatives of the promoter also wrote in a post on Facebook.
