The Vicious Circle hosts pop-up art, music gallery in downtown Stamford

The Vicious Circle, a Stamford independent art exhibiting cooperative, will host a pop-up art and music gallery downtown at 96 Bedford St., Saturday, Dec. 7, through Saturday, Dec. 14.

An opening reception is scheduled for Dec. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., and will be live streamed over the internet.

The Vicious Circle is an exhibiting and performance cooperative dedicated to presenting its artists’ work to the public in alternative venues in the Fairfield County area. Its goal is to supersede the vicious circle of opportunity that dictates that an artist can’t get an exhibit without experience and you can’t get experience without an exhibit; they attempt to provide both, according to a Stamford Downtown news release.

This current exhibit, “The Vicious Circle — 25 Years Later,” is a celebration of the group’s success and stubborn attitude to be artistically independent and have their vision seen on their own terms, in alternative venues. The exhibition will feature a group of artists that includes painters, photographers, musicians and media producers.

The opening reception will offer the exhibition of the fine art, photography, a painting “autodrawing” demonstration and an experimental film. Additionally, a new facet of art form for the group, musicians will also perform at the opening.

The artwork in this gallery collection will include the thought provoking, sensual and phantasmagoric work of photographer Paul David Anthony, the labyrinthian multifaceted collaborative “autodrawing” of Carl Berrien Smith and Kelly Morgen Christopher, glamour and beauty photo mixed media by Bayardo Carrillo, a manifesto of elaborate intentional scribbles of love by Will Hart and the colorful and textured organic multi media abstractions of Susan Peyser.

A special experimental film also will be screened by media artist Will Bragger. Musical performances will include acoustic tunes by Julie Maimon & Kevin Kelly, The Lincoln Project and L&S Electric.

Since 1995, The Vicious Circle has shown fine art and photography at such alternative venues as restaurants, bars, carnivals, empty stores, and The Sackler Gallery at The Palace Theatre as their primary venue for five years as well as receiving much publicity on radio, newspapers and television.
