Turnip greens, jazz and art — it is all part of this first November weekend and admission is free.
Turnip Green Festival
The Nashville Farmers’ Market’s annual Turnip Green Festival is Saturday, with live music by the house band from B.B. King’s Blues Club, samples from the “world’s largest cauldrons of turnip greens” and a cornbread baking contest.
As part of the free festival, the Metro Nashville Arts Commission and the Farmers’ Market will dedicate “Turnip Greens,” a large hanging sculpture from artist Seitu Jones, and “Adanedi,” an accompanying mural series from Norf Art Collective at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The public artworks are part of a renovation of the Farmers’ Market to increase accessibility, capacity and programming, and reorient the main entrance toward the new Tennessee State Museum, which shares the Bicentennial Mall campus.
The first 250 people at the festival will get free reusable bag stamped with the “Turnip Greens” drawing.

Jazz on the Cumberland
This free concert series that takes place at Cumberland Park, 592 S. First St., features smooth and traditional jazz, along with a spectacular riverfront view of the city, and food trucks. The Nashville Youth Jazz Band will play from 4-6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Civil War Days
Johnsonville State Historic Park in New Johnsonville, one of Tennessee’s best-preserved Civil War sites, has a “Civil War Days” event of interpreted history from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. You can “meet” Andrew Johnson and Gen. Grant, enjoy the music of the 52nd Regimental String Band and see infantry drills and artillery firing demonstrations through the day. There are even $5 plate lunches from Friends of Johnsonville State Park.
In addition to the Federal encampment activities at the Johnsonville Park in New Johnsonville in Humphreys County, the 155th anniversary weekend also includes Confederate activities across the Tennessee River at Nathan Bedford Forrest Park in Benton County.

NASHVEMBER festival
Project 615 presents the sixth annual NASHVEMBER free family-friendly festival with vendors, food trucks, a live DJ, art and a gaming area. The event run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Sevier Park, 3021 Lealand Lane. Project 615 is an apparel company dedicated to helping the homeless.

Art crawls
The Franklin Art Scene is 6-9 p.m. the first Friday of every month in and around downtown Franklin, with more than 30 galleries participating.

Nashville’s First Saturday Art Crawl is a chance to explore the Fifth Avenue galleries, plus as many as 20 other downtown galleries. There is a free shuttle, and most of the galleries have free snacks and wine, as well as great art on exhibit.

Arts & Music at Wedgewood-Houston offers great art and receptions in several locations in this emerging neighborhood the first Saturday of every month starting at 6 p.m.

Franklin Family Day
Franklin’s 13th annual Family Day Celebration is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm. There will be live music, hay rides, a petting zoo, horse demonstrations, pony rides, crafts, games and face painting.

Bluegrass Bash
The historic Douglass-Clark House in Gallatin will host the free Backyard Bluegrass Bash from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. This is a free outdoor festival that includes five music performances, free tours of the historic Douglass-Clark House and on-site vendors.
Parking will be next door at Douglass Chapel United Methodist Church (2141 Long Hollow Pike, Gallatin) and a golf cart shuttle will be available.
Entertainment includes music by the Blind Tigers, the Jake Leg Trio, Uncle Shuffelo and His Haint Hollow Hootenanny, the Inglewood Old-Time String Band and banjo player Leroy Troy.

Free day at Polk home
The President James K. Polk Home and Museum will offer free admission from 1-5 p.m. Sunday. The free day, held annually on the first Sunday in November, commemorates the 11th U.S. president’s birthday. You will be able to visit the main house, the adjacent Sisters’ House visitor center and museum, the detached kitchen, and the gardens at no charge. The site’s award-winning orientation film will be shown continuously in the Sisters’ House. Refreshments will be served in the kitchen.
The Polk Home is located at 301 W. Seventh St. in downtown Columbia.

Goodwill half-off day
The first Saturday of each month is a storewide half-off day at all area Goodwill stores, except the outlets. Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Book sale
The Hendersonville Library Friends semi-annual book sale at the Hendersonville Public Library, 140 Saundersville Road, begins at noon Saturday and will continue through Nov. 23. Prices are $2 for hard covers, $1 for paperbacks and 50 cents for most children’s items There are also CDs, DVDs and audio books. No credit or debit cards.
Everything $6 sale
HCI Fundraising has one of its “Everything $6” sales Nov. 6-8 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Medical Research Building-Light Hall, behind the main hospital. The sale, which includes jewelry and gift items all priced at $6, will take place from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday.
