Two women were sexually assaulted over the weekend at the Country Fest Fairgrounds in Little Current.

In a release, police said Manitoulin OPP officers and Manitoulin-Sudbury Emergency Medical Services were called at 2:10 a.m. Sunday about a woman who had been injured.

“The investigation has since revealed that a female in attendance at the (annual Manitoulin Country Fest) was walking back to her campsite when she was assaulted by an unknown male,” police said. “She was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

While officers were investigating, they received a second complaint at the fairgrounds about another sexual assault on a second woman.

“Police believe the two events are linked and are seeking to identify one suspect.”

He is described as male, thin build, 5-foot-11, about 19 years old and with dark hair that’s short on the sides and longer on top.

The investigation, with the assistance of the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit, continues. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
