Central Alberta musician Bill Bourne returns to perform in Red Deer with Tri-Continental

Bourne, Madagascar Slim and Lester Quitzau will play on Sept. 27

The band Tri-Continental, featuring Central Alberta musician Bill Bourne, will be performing next week in Red Deer.

The group that also includes acclaimed musicians Madagascar Slim and Lester Quitzau will play on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Elks Club in a concert presented by the Central Music Festival Society.

Known internationally for their layered, world music tunes, Tri-Continental will play selections from last year’s disc Dust Dance, as well as music from the group’s extensive catalogue.

Tri-Continental has started a new chapter with the addition of drummer Michael Treadway.

Bourne, a Juno Award-winning guitarist and singer/songwriter, hails from the Innisfail area and makes his home in Edmonton.

Slim was born in Madagascar before settling in Canada. And Qutizau is an Edmontonian, who like his band mates, has enjoyed a long solo career as well as collaborations with various artists.

The three musicians described themselves as friends who share a love of the blues. Tri-Continental fuses the talents of these guitar-players, singers and songwriters.

The band is billed as having no musical boundaries and being a “one-of-a-kind blues/folk/world music” fusion band that strives for “soulfulness, intensity and atmosphere.”
