IRONWOOD – The Historic Ironwood Theatre hosted the Garland City Chamber Players Sunday afternoon in the mezzanine of the theatre. The four members from Ashland featured the music of Franz Schubert in a two-hour concert to a cozy crowd of about 12 people.
They are part of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of the Garland City Consort, said violinist Andrew McInnes. This is the third time the group has performed at HIT and another concert is scheduled for June 7, 2020,” he said. “It’s a lovely space. Fun to play in.”
Pianist Jaryd Traaholt said the space was unique compared to some of the places they play. “It’s quite elegant,” added Neil Paynter, also a pianist with the group.
Singer Tiffany Darling said it was the first time she had performed at HIT. “It’s really exciting to sing here,” she said. She added she is looking forward to singing on the main stage next year.
“It’s the perfect setting for chamber music,” said Paynter. “It’s nice to see people coming out and enjoying the atmosphere.”
Patrons were able to take in the The Downtown Art Place “Cold Hands: Warm Hearts Exhibition” in the concourse of the Historic Ironwood Theatre. The exhibition features DAP artists running through Jan. 11.
HIT president Zona Wick said it was nice to see the theatre and the Downtown Art Place working together bringing the visual and performing arts to the community and creating that cultural atmosphere.
“The variety brings a diverse cultural experience to the community,” she said.
