Feminist icon Ani DiFranco to perform at College Street Music Hall Nov. 8

Feminist icon, Grammy winner and own-label pioneer Ani DiFranco will perform at College Street Music Hall in New Haven Friday, Nov. 8, with openers piano-and-violin act Gracie and Rachel.

DiFranco created her own record label in 1990. Her folksy music has embraced punk, funk, hip hop, jazz, soul, electronica and more. Her most recent album, “Binary,” was released in June 2017 on Righteous Babe Records and her memoir “No Walls and the Recurring Dream” was released in May 2019 by Viking Books.

DiFranco’s lyrics are rhythmic, often autobiographical and unapologetically political. She has been the recipient of many honors and awards, including the Woman of Courage Award from the National Organization for Women, the Gay/Lesbian American Music Award for Female Artist of the Year and the Woody Guthrie Award.

Gracie and Rachel are Californians living in New York with classical leanings with a pop sensibility.

The venue’s format this night is fully reserved seated on the floor and in the balcony.
