One of Cincinnati’s most fun and funky musical acts turns 10 years old this year. And this Saturday, Nov. 16, they’ll be celebrating in style with a free party/concert at Fretboard Brewing in Blue Ash. Showtime is 8 p.m.

The Cincy Brass first came together in 2009 as a party band… with a horn-y twist. As the name suggests, The Cincy Brass features some of the area’s finest horn players, who joined forces to put their own unique, groove-centric spin on classic songs.

The Cincy Brass has rewired songs by everyone from James Brown, Kool and the Gang, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to contemporary Pop faves by Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Chainsmokers and Demi Lovato, while also doing unexpected covers of Led Zeppelin, Dr. Dre, Deerhoof and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The group has won Cincinnati Entertainment Awards several times in the Funk/R&B/Soul category and in 2011 they released the (mostly) original album Ain’t Nuttin Louder, which featured guests like Bootsy Collins and rappers Jibri and Buggs Tha Rocka (aka Speed Walton).

You can watch some live Cincy Brass clips on the band’s YouTube page.

The nonet currently features Paul Glader (alto sax), Josh Kline (tenor sax), Phil Hilger (baritone sax), Michael Mavridoglou (trumpet), Eric Lechliter (trumpet), Dominic Marino (trombone), Jason Branscum (trombone) and Josh Omaits (sousaphone), plus Tom Buckley, on drums. For this weekend’s anniversary shindig, the group will be jamming with several former members as well, including Moe Tompkins, Charles Dong, Jason Swann, Ryan Thielman and Adam Machaskee.
