KL Brass Band looking for new musicians

Kirkland Lake’s iconic brass band is looking for new members.
Brass bands have had a long standing tradition in town. Back in the 1930’s the Kirkland Lake Citizen’s Band was formed under the direction of clarinetist-Band Master Sam Mason.
On one occasion the group won a gold medal at the CNE band competitions in Toronto. Other brass and woodwind bands followed. In the 1950’s there was the Algonquin Regiment Band that was under the direction of Captain Albert Delean.
The 1970’s saw the formation of the Kirkland Lake Concert Band under the direction of a well-known Kirkland Laker, the late Carl Reinholt.
The next band to form was the Kirkland Lake Brass Band founded by Euphonium specialist James Perry. The KL Brass Band continues today under the direction of 0rganist and music teacher David Gillett.
The band rehearses evenings at St. Peter’s Anglican Church and play a number of shows throughout the year.
If you play a brass instrument and would like to join, call Gillett at 642-3343. Brass instruments are provided.
