Osama Bin Laden’s rock star niece is gigging in trendy London music clubs after first attempting to launch her career in New York in the wake of 9/11.

Wafah Dufour, 44, is the eldest daughter of the Islamist mass murderer’s half-brother Yeslam and his ex-wife Carmen.

The MailOnline tracked her down to Peckham Audio last week where she was fronting punk trio Deep Tan dressed in chrome trousers paired with a plunging black top.

On the bass was Celeste Guinness, heiress to the Guinness brewing dynasty, and on the drums, Melia Beaudoin, a French model whose Instagram is highly revealing.

Ms Dufour, who has denounced her uncle in the strongest terms, politely declined to discuss Osama bin Laden.

Born in California, she studied in Geneva and later attended Columbia Law School in New York where she was living when her uncle’s mujahideen flew into the World Trade Center, killing more than 2,600 victims.

Ms Dufour, whose mother is Swiss-Iranian, sings French and English lyrics in a husky soprano which is accompanied by stripped-back guitar riffs.

The women debuted their new double A-side, ‘Shimmer/Constant Inconsistencies,’ which was released last month, but played a few numbers from their back catalogue to get the young crowd in the mood.

Their music is classic punk, with sardonic lyrics about the tropes of modern love backed up by simple and invigorating guitar rhythms.

Their first new track, ‘Shimmer,’ is about ‘surface-level people with malice that runs deep. People who operate with cruel intentions, who mask their agenda with a pretty convincing, shiny veneer.’

While the second, ‘Constant Inconsistencies,’ is a vengeful break-up track which describes how an unrequited lover will always let you down.

Ms Dufour’s band say: ‘It’s a commonly felt thing, everyone has had someone where they’ve thought you love them, but where the f**k are they?’

Ms Dufour, who has never met her uncle and has long insisted on being called by her mother’s maiden name, refused to speak to the MailOnline about her ancestry.

In 2006, Ms Dufour was romantically linked to John Legend and looking to make waves in the Big Apple, posing in racy shoots and stepping out on red carpets.

A GQ article from the time provides an insight into how much her uncle’s terrorism rocked her family, telling the magazine that after the attack on the Twin Towers, ‘I wanted to disappear.’

‘I was crying all day,’ she told GQ. ‘I was saying, ‘How can I be me?’ For me it was an identity crisis, because I didn’t want to be related to something so awful.

‘I’m like the victim, but I’m also part of what hits the target. And in my head, I know exactly where I stand, so it’s so tiring that I always have to explain myself, that I have nothing to do with anything.’

Ms Dufour, who has described herself as an American and a New Yorker, moved to London in the aftermath of 9/11.

She later returned to New York in 2004 after saying that she had been tormented by the British tabloids.

Ms Dufour’s mother Carmen was able to finally obtain a divorce from Yeslam bin Laden in 2006.

The Saudi national had refused to accept his third daughter as his own and Ms Dufour has said she could never forgive him for what she put her mother through.

The musician said then that after she turned 18 she wasn’t given a penny by her father despite his vast wealth and playboy lifestyle.

Ms Dufour added that she had only spoken to him once since the September 11 attack.

After her performance with Deep Tan, Ms Dufour mingled for ten minutes among the hipsters knocking back cans of Red Stripe lager before retaking the stage with the headliners.

It turned out she’s also a member of Sweat, a five-piece band, all men except her.

The nightclub was packed by this stage and the crowd was cheering loudly for the final act. The lead-singer had foppish pink hair and wore a tank top that hung loosely on his skinny frame.

Sweat have featured on BBC Radio 1 and in a recent interview with the NME they were asked to name ‘one really interesting thing’ about themselves that wasn’t to do with music.

But the band, who chose to give mysterious aliases for the interview, told the magazine: ‘There is nothing beyond music.’

Deep Tan’s latest double A-side single has been compared to music by Warpaint and Foals.

Their most recent gig was last night where the NME showcased the trio at a lively music pub in Shacklewell, north London.
