The Noblesville concert venue once known as Deer Creek now has a new name: the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center. Let Justin Mack teach you how to pronounce it.

Two years ago, the Noblesville amphitheater formerly known as a bunch of different things over its 30 year history made headlines when it revealed its new naming-rights sponsor and a brand new name: Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center.

What followed was tons of reaction, tips on how to properly pronounce it and legions of locals who cried out, “It’s still Deer Creek to me!”

Last month, the award-winning music venue underwent another name change, but with way less pomp and circumstance.

Instead, it was a few quick updates of the social media accounts that confirmed that the “home mortgage” portion of the name was being dropped, and that it would be known only as Ruoff Music Center going forward.

On Nov. 19, the new name made its public debut when Ruoff Music Center updated its “about” section on Facebook, its website address and its Facebook profile picture. The same was done on Twitter and Instagram.

But that was the extent of the rollout. No big explanation. No press release. Just a quick tweak to give the venue name a little more punch and make it less of a mouthful.

Naturally, people responded by reminding Ruoff officials that they still call it Deer Creek. Of the 74 comments the updated profile picture has generated so far, about two-thirds of them are Facebook users offering up some variation of “it’s still Deer Creek and it always will be.”

“If you incorporated the name ‘Deer Creek,’ Hoosiers would thank you for it,” one Facebook user said.

“Can we go back to original name Deer Creek!” asked another.

One user kept it simple with a comment of “Deer creek forever!!!”

“Blink and it will be something different. Will always be ‘Deer Creek’ no matter what that sign says,” said one user.

The cat meme even showed up in the comments section. You know the one.

Other folks on social media suggested something like “Ruoff Music Center at Deer Creek” as the new name.

IndyStar has reached out to the venue and Live Nation, owners of the venue, to learn more about why the new name was chosen and how long they had been considering the tweak. I haven’t back, but would the reason matter to the “you spelled Deer Creek wrong” crowd?

Probably not.

Instead, read about Journey, Alanis Morissette, Black Crowes and all the other big acts heading to Noblesville in 2020, and have a great time at the Deer Klipsch Ruoff Center presented by Verizon.
