She & Him bring ‘Christmas Party’ to College Street Music Hall
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, who perform as She & Him, will bring their “Christmas Party” concert to College Street Music Hall, Saturday, Dec. 7. Comedian Pete Lee opens this all-ages show.
Deschanel, an actress/singer-songwriter, and Ward, a guitarist/singer-songwriter, “are as comfortable and complementary a musical pair as Les Paul and Mary Ford,” the theater says.
“Matt and Zooey make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up.
“They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright.”
She & Him began as a no-strings-attached collaboration and evolved into a bona fide touring band that has released six records, including two holiday albums. “A Very She & Him Christmas” dropped in 2011 and quickly became a staple of the season. Their second Yuletide collection, “Christmas Party,” came out in 2016.
The Los Angeles Times has said, “Singer Zooey Deschanel and guitarist M. Ward seem perfectly in sync with whatever it is that makes the holiday season so uniquely joyful.”
Opener Pete Lee was the first comic to receive up a standing ovation on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” It happened after Fallon attended one of Lee’s gigs in New York City and invited him on the show. Lee’s humor comes from his Midwestern roots.
Lee has been seen on Comedy Central, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and on the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns,” among other shows. He’s a regular on TruTV’s “Comedy Knockout” and Comedy Central’s “Roast Battle,” and starred in the documentary, “I Need You to Kill,” which is available on iTunes and Amazon.
(If you can’t make the Dec. 7 show in New Haven, you can still catch She & Him in this part of the country. You just have to get yourself to Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, Friday, Dec. 6. See www.kingstheatre.com.)
