LIMA — A baby grand piano now resides in the lobby of Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, part of the hospital’s new music therapy program.
The hospital is inviting community musicians to play in the lobby to comfort St. Rita’s patients. Other instruments will be made available elsewhere in the hospital as the music therapy program grows, St. Rita’s announced on Monday.
“Music is a universal language, one that reaches everyone in their own unique way,” said Mercy Health — Lima market president Ronda Lehman. “It can uplift and energize or soothe. St. Rita’s chose to develop this program so that we could provide comfort and care to patients from the minute they set foot into the hospital.”
Father Charles Obinwa recently blessed the piano during the hospital’s Mercy Day celebration.
