Taylor Swift was snubbed when the 2020 Grammy nominations were announced on November 20. The singer didn’t receive a nod in either of the Grammy’s two biggest categories, album of the year and record of the year, despite strong sales and positive reviews for her latest album Lover. Swift was nominated in three other categories: song of the year, best pop solo performance, and best pop vocal album.

Swift didn’t seem put out by the lack of recognition. “LOVER IS NOMINATED FOR SONG OF THE YEAR AT THE GRAMMYS!!!” she shared in her Instagram story. The singer has 10 Grammys and has been nominated a total of 35 times.

If the “You Need to Calm Down” artist is secretly feeling a bit down about the lack of Grammy love, she can take solace in knowing she’s a contender in five categories at the 2019 American Music Awards, which will take place on Sunday, November 24.

Swift could make history at this year’s AMAs

Swift, 29, is on the verge of making history at this year’s ceremony. She’s already won 24 AMAs, including this year’s already-announced prize for Artist of the Decade. Currently, she’s tied with Michael Jackson as the performer with the most career wins. If she takes home a trophy in any of the five categories in which she’s nominated, she’ll set a new record.

This year, Swift is nominated for Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock), Favorite Album (Pop/Rock), and Favorite Album (Adult Contemporary).

Swift’s string of wins began in 2008, when she won Favorite Country Female Artist. She’s won artist of the year four times, more than any other artist.

Swift’s competition

Swift faces some stiff competition in her quest to become the reigning queen of the AMAs. She’s up against Drake, Ariana Grande, Halsey, and Post Malone in the Artist of the Year Category. In both the Favorite Female Artist and the Favorite Album (Pop/Rock) categories, her fellow nominees are Billie Eilish and Grande.

Maroon 5 and Pink are nominated along with Swift for favorite adult contemporary artist. In the music video category, the nominees are Eilish for “Bad Guy,” Grande for “7 Rings,” Halsey for “Without Me,” and Lil Nas X for “Old Town Road.”

Will she perform her old hits?

Swift will perform at Sunday night ceremony, but there’s been some question about whether she’d be able to sing most of her old hits due to a dispute with her former label Big Machine.

“Guys – It’s been announced recently that the American Music Awards will be honoring me with the Artist of the Decade Award at this year’s ceremony,” Swift wrote on Tumblr. “I’ve been planning to perform a medley of my hits throughout the decade on the show. [Big Machines execs ] Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year.”

Big Machine later relented, telling Billboard that Swift would be allowed to perform her songs.

The American Music Awards air live on ABC on Sunday, November 24, at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT).
