Charlotte Emma Aitchison, who is better known as Charli XCX, is an artist unlike any other. Her approach to music is one-of-a-kind, which is certainly one of the reasons why she has received multiple Grammy Awards nominations, in addition to her array of esteemed accolades and recognitions.

Despite the year coming to an end, the singer-songwriter has continued to share incredible musical releases that her fans can’t get enough of. Since last month, with the drop of a music video for her latest single “White Mercedes,” Charli garnered over 1.4 million views on YouTube alone.

To say this melody is catchy would be an understatement and beyond that, there’s no forgetting her stunning falsetto leading up to the chorus that will instantly grab any fan’s attention. For a song as good as this, it’s no surprise that her team put together the most visually appealing and bold clip.

According to Director Colin Solal Cardo, they chose to film the video in Ukraine’s capital city of Kiev. Of course, props included a snow white vehicle that brought Charli’s song title to life. When it came down to her look, the star went with a bubblegum pink gown reminiscent of something that could have been worn to a class prom. However, in keeping with her edgy style, she finished things off by pairing the eye-catching dress with multi-colored chain accessories and striking knee-high combat boots. Moreover, similar to Charli’s music video with Troye Sivan for their chart-topping track “1999,” she highlighted the ultimate throwback watch from G-SHOCK’s S-Series. Overall, there’s no getting away from the nostalgia continuing to dominate the entertainment industry.

One thing’s for sure, Charli knew what she wanted for the video and Director Cardo couldn’t be happier to support her throughout the process. “I love working with Charli as she is so visually driven and has a profound understand of directing and cinema,” he said via e-mail to Forbes. “This was our second collaboration after the ‘Gone’ video, so we knew each other at that point and that made everything much more fluid and personal.”

Even though they didn’t have much time to get the video together, Cardo went on to reveal that Charli made an effort to still listen to his ideas and added that it was truly a team endeavor. “We would hit each other up and share ideas and reference on Whatsapp, it was so collaborative,” he emphasized. “Everything happened super fast as we had about a week to write, prep, and shoot the video. We shot on location in Kiev for a long and intense day.”

Once they got to Kiev, Charli shined brighter than ever. “On set Charli is a trooper and literally the whole package as she does her own stunts and performed flawlessly through numerous setups, from early morning into late in the night,” Cardo described.” The shotlist was very ambitious, but her dedication really shows in the final product in spite of our short deadlines and I’m super proud of what we have made together.”
