femme factoryLisa SullivanThe Women’s Groovement is a new Cincinnati-based non-profit founded by local photographer Lisa Sulivan, who is known for her great photos of musicians (among other subjects; check out some of her work at llsullivanphotography.com).

According to its website, the organization’s goal is “to connect female artists within and outside of their communities to support each other, collaborate and create special art and music events.” Funds the group raises through its events will be used for mentorship programs and to provide scholarships to help musicians and artists further pursue their passions.

This weekend (Nov. 8 and 9), Arnold’s will play host to The Women’s Groovement Music Festival, described as “a celebration of female musicians in Cincinnati.” The event features established local acts as well as a pair of “supergroup” collectives created just for the show, spotlighting Women’s Groovement’s collaborative, community-minded spirit.

The Lady Parts headline Friday’s festivities. The group features members of Silver Wings, Krystal Peterson and the Queen City Band and the Queen City Sisters. Saturday’s lineup is topped by The Dirty Birds, which includes members of rootsy area acts twig&leaf, Highly Likely, Harlot and Chelsea Ford and the Trouble.

Friday’s lineup also features femme factory, a collaboration between local singer/songwriters Jess Lamb and Anna Applegate. On Facebook, it’s described as an “eerie Glitter Pop project that will have you chasing waterfalls and running from the devil.”

“Arnold’s is not only one of the best music venues in the city but it is also owned by a woman and has a female executive chef,” Sullivan says in a press release for the event. “It’s honestly perfect.”

The show is being presented with Maker’s Mark and there will be “Women’s Groovement branded swag” available.
