Sports stars, musicians attend Gord Bamford Foundation Charity Golf Classic gala – Red Deer Advocate

Lacombe country singer Gord Bamford, fellow country music stars and sports icons are ready to hit the links for an annual charity golfing event.

The 12th annual Gord Bamford Foundation Charity Golf Classic kicked off with a gala Wednesday night, featuring dinner, an auction filled with unique items and live performances from Bamford, Aaron Pritchett, JoJo Mason and Jess Moskaluke. Sports stars Theo Fleury, Glenn Anderson, Rob Brown and Rebecca Johnston were also in attendance.

Thursday will be a full day of golf at the Lacombe Golf and Country Club.

“No other event in Canada is doing what we are doing,” Bamford said in a recent press release.

“We bring in top athletes, exciting acts and incredible experiences to bid on during our auction. The goal is to create a unique experience every year.”

Bamford said the event’s organizing committee always does an “incredible job.”

“We anticipate raising enough funds to make a difference in the lives of thousands of kids this year,” said Bamford.

Last year’s charity golf classic, which is the foundation’s primary source of fundraising, raised $469,720. That money went towards MusiCounts, Big Brothers Big Sisters – Lacombe, the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre and supported music therapy programs in children’s hospitals across Canada.

The Gord Bamford Foundation has raised more than $3.6 million to support various youth-centred organizations that include or involve music, education, healthcare, sports and multi-use facilities. On Wednesday, Bamford said he hopes the foundation can hit $4 million raised by the end of the night.

“I’m proud to say that money stays in charities within Canada,” he said.
